Nehemiah 7:66-73 :

The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred sixty, in addition to their male servants and their female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven; and they had two hundred forty-five singing men and singing women. Their horses were seven hundred thirty-six; their mules, two hundred forty-five; their camels, four hundred thirty-five; their donkeys, six thousand seven hundred twenty.

Some from among the heads of fathers’ households gave to the work. The governor gave to the treasury one thousand darics of gold, fifty basins, and five hundred thirty priests’ garments. Some of the heads of fathers’ households gave into the treasury of the work twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand two hundred minas of silver. That which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand darics of gold, plus two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven priests’ garments.

So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the temple servants, and all Israel, lived in their cities.

When the seventh month had come, the children of Israel were in their cities.

The wealth of Israel was small enough at this time in history, to count right here in this passage. It's interesting that the common people gave more gold and siver than the leaders did. That's the way it really works. There's more money with the common man than there is with the wealthy, its just spread out. How could raising taxes on the rich really work if they have less money than the bulk of the people put together? Wouldn't it just take the common man's job away? I think that's what has been happening in many cities and countries.

Once again, God counts man, woman, free, slave and animal. God loves all of His creation. All are valuable and worthy of consideration in His eyes.

The last two sentences tell us that the people were all living in their cities. We read earlier that many of them had come out of their own cities to help rebuild Jerusalem. At this point, Nehemiah records the fact that as of the seventh month, all were back home. It's as if Nehemiah was saying that he completed a task. That's something that good leaders do. They get things done and God had helped Nehemiah and the 49,697 Israelis complete the building of the wall in spite of all the opposition they faced.
